All bodies can do Pilates, no matter what stage of life or fitness you are in. The practice meets you where you are. And as you get stronger, Pilates gets harder. The more you learn about the method and anatomy, the more you begin to understand and appreciate just how awesome your body is.

Mat vs Reformer
Pilates builds focus, attention to breath, body awareness, flexibility while strengthening the body and the mind. Mat Pilates Classes are practiced on a Pilates Mat and utilize props to assist students in building mind-body connections. Reformer Classes are practiced on a Pilates Reformer, where you receive instant feedback from the equipment. You’ll have resistance and assistance from the straps, footbar and the springs. The reformer is supportive and challenging and will help you build your mind-body connection. Mat & Reformer classes complement each other. The more Mat classes you attend, the more benefit you will get out of your Reformer classes, and vice versa.
What is a Pilates Reformer?
Pilates Reformer?
The Pilates Reformer consists of a sliding carriage equipped with adjustable springs, pulleys, straps, and a footbar. On the reformer you will practice dynamic movements for a full body workout that keeps balance and your core at the center of your practice. You're always pushing or pulling on the equipment which gives you immediate feedback so you can adjust to make your movement more challenging or more supportive. Arrive 10-15 minutes early to your first reformer class and the instructor will go over the equipment with you.

What is TRX?
TRX, or Total Resistance eXercise, is a full-body workout that uses your body weight and the TRX suspension straps to build strength, balance, flexibility, and core stability. This class is held at the 12th Ave Mat Studio.
Pilates IRL
Pilates is the practice of building a mind-body connection, known as proprioception. The more you practice standing upright, engaging your core and rolling your shoulder blades back and down in class, the more muscle memory, connection and strength you build in your body. So, when you’re walking through the grocery store with good posture, barely resting your fingertips on your cart because your core is holding you upright, that is Pilates in Real Life. We call this functional movement and it is one of the many benefits of a regular Pilates practice.

Your core consists of layers of muscles to support your spine and wraps around your entire midsection. Many people think of “6 pack abs” when we mention the core - but really we’re activating, strengthening and utilizing the deeper core muscles that wrap around the waist and over the ribs to support your organs.
a series of exercises performed on a Pilates reformer. The Pilates reformer is incredibly versatile; resistance from the springs can provide extra challenge or extra support for hundreds of exercises; in these classes, we may utilize props such as the jumpboard, sitting box, balls, bands, hand weights, etc.
a series of exercises performed on a thick, squishy Pilates Mat where your body provides both the resistance and the assistance for Pilates exercises and you’re affected by only gravity and your body weight; in these classes, we may utilize props such as balls, bands, hand weights, foam rollers, yoga blocks, etc.
